Sunday: Fun with Fiber
Sari Silk + Turquoise Mohair

I guess what I’m supposed to be doing (or at least what I’ve told my DH I’m doing) is raising animals for their fiber which I am then processing and trying to sell. To other people. For them to use to make beautiful things.
But sometimes I have to stop and play with my fiber myself. This bobbin of yarn is the result of a little play time at Sassy Spinster yesterday with my spinning sisters!
This handspun yarn is a combination of Sari Silk (the little fluffy pieces of bright colored silk that is a byproduct of making silk sari wraps) and “Harley” mohair that I dyed a brilliant turquoise.
I think the result is stunning, and the next time you see this yarn, it will be a beautiful openwork shawl!
Enablers? No! Empowerers!
I have some great friends and family. They have enabled me to realize my dream of owning and sharing my fiber farm!
For example, my mother was very supportive: “Well, if this is what you want to do, you should do it. You’re not getting any younger!”
My brother has also been very supportive: “You know, you really ought to close in this building, fix the roof, put some gates up, and keep the goats out of here!”
My husband is fabulously supportive. He goes to work five days a week to pay for my addiction, and when there is a lot going on at the farm on Saturday, he even goes in and works overtime!
But my BEST Empowerer is my friend Liz. Liz empowers me to get great yarn like this beautiful Noro at fantastic prices so I can have lots and lots of it to make beautiful things for myself and others, like the beautiful “Trinket” scarf designed by my another First Class enabler — my Ashford dealer — Joanne!
I hope you have great friends and family like I do. If you don’t, come see me! I’ll empower you to live your dream!
(Note to the humorless: I REALLY DO have a great family and friends. The comments about my mom, my brother, and my husband are intended to be tongue-in-cheek!)
Cold? Knit Yourself a Hat!
Aaron’s Hat

Crazy knitters, spinners, and crocheters are sitting in their houses making beautiful things in whichever fiber craft catches their fancy while watching the Vancouver Olympics (or not). Those who are hooked in to the Ravelry social network are entering their finished goods in the Ravelympics and receiving virtual medals for their efforts.
This is my entry in the Hat Halfpipe competition. It is called “Aaron’s Hat” not because I made it for some guy named Aaron, but because that’s the pattern name! It’s actually going into inventory as I prepare for next fall’s round of craft fairs and art shows.
What’s next? The matching cowl neckscarf, of course!
