Ken, Mary & The Farm

Fancy Fibers Farm is a family farm where Mary raises alpacas, goats, sheep, and rabbits for their beautiful fibers and Ken raises pastured, cage-free chickens for fun and fresh eggs.

We invite you to become a part of our farm by visiting or working with us and our animals, through our CSA, or by purchasing our products online, at craft festivals, or in our Farm Store.

Come try your hand at being a fiber farmer! We look forward to your company!

Bear has developed wanderlust.  Mostly during the day. I guess he’s bored? Used to be he would sleep all day in a cool spot he had dug out underneat a shed. But lately he’s started digging out.

What’s amazing is how small a hole he needs to escape for such a huge dog! That hole, at it’s deepest point, is not even 6 inches deep!

We have MILES of fenceline, and reinforcing it with hot wire, or anything else for that matter, would be a huge undertaking.  We’ve also heard that hot wire is not always a success with these dogs anyway because of their thick coats.

So, if you can’t modify the fence, you modify the dog.

We used some pipe insulation and stiff plastic tubing to add a lightweight, but bulky, um, accessory to Bear’s collar. Today is his first day with it on. We’re hoping he’ll dig his usual hole then realize his head doesn’t fit through it anymore, and give up, instead of digging deeper.

Time will tell.
